Bellevue case study
A 120-student Grade 8 cohort used StarCoach in a two-week pilot. The cohort’s SBA math pass rate rose from 23.5% to 31.8% year over year—an 8.3 percentage-point gain and a 35% relative increase.

How coaching works
StarCoach encourages students to sketch what they are thinking—to draw a model, label quantities, test a strategy, and revise their work. Making ideas visible helps students express their mathematical thinking, recognize relationships, and analyze a problem before reaching for an answer.
StarCoach follows the scratchpad alongside the conversation, identifies where the reasoning breaks down, and responds with one focused question or hint. The student makes the next move, building habits they can use independently.

Unfinished learning · Grade-level support
Students enter grade-level math with different unfinished learning from prior grades. Whole-class review can slow current learning, while more practice on today’s lesson may not address what each student needs.
Teachers assign short, expert-designed Coaching Workshops matched to each student’s needs. StarCoach provides one-to-one coaching while the class continues grade-level learning.
Math Language Bridge · English learner support
Students who learned or study math in another language may understand the mathematics but be blocked by unfamiliar terms and dense middle-school word problems. The language barrier can hide what they know.
